Apollo 11 mission control during lunar surface activity. Mission controls displays and mission timer clocks, with mission controllers following the Apollo 11 astronauts as they walk on the surface of the Moon. After the successful landing on the Moon, US astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin exited their lander and spent 2.5 hours on the lunar surface. Armstrong took his historic first steps in the early hours (UTC) of 21 July 1969, with his famous line: 'That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.' The footage of the historic moonwalk was displayed on screens at mission control, as well as being broadcast around the world. The mission controllers are at NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston, Texas, USA. | |
