Apollo 11 vacuum chamber training. US astronaut Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) training in a vacuum chamber in preparation for the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon. The vacuum chamber is simulating conditions on the lunar surface. The Apollo 11 mission (16-24 July 1969) was the first landing by humans on the Moon, with Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descending to the surface in the Lunar Module, while the third crew member Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command Module. This training took place at the Manned Spacecraft Center (later the Johnson Space Center), Houston, Texas, USA. Training began after the crew were selected in 1967. | |
