Mir space station cosmonauts, 1994. Footage of several cosmonauts on the Soviet (later Russian) space station Mir, examining circuit boards and undertaking other tasks. The footage starts with Russian cosmonaut Yelena Kondakova (born 1957) who arrived at the space station on the Soyuz TM-20 flight on 3 October 1994, part of the Mir EO-17 crew. The other three cosmonauts seen in this footage were already on board, forming the Mir EO-16 crew. The cosmonaut seen at 0:25 is the station commander Yuri Malenchenko (born 1961). From 0:28 is Kazakh cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev (born 1951). From 0:41, cosmonaut Valeri Polyakov (born 1942) is assisting Kondakova. The clip ends with Musabayev using binoculars to view the Earth. Musabayev and Malenchenko returned to Earth on 4 November 1994 in Soyuz TM-19. Polyakov and Kondakova stayed on board, returning to Earth on 22 March 1995. Polyakov's stay on Mir set a record of 14 months for the longest duration stay in orbit. Mir orbited the Earth from 1986 to 2001. | |
