Apollo training by Neil Armstrong, 1960s. Footage of a fixed-base simulator being used by US astronaut Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) to train in piloting and landing the Lunar Module (LM). Training on simulators such as this, and in the Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV), was crucial experience for Armstrong's successful landing of an LM on the surface of the Moon during the historic Apollo 11 mission in July 1969 (the first manned lunar landing). Armstrong was selected as an astronaut in 1962, and trained with the LLTVs from 1967. | |
