Lunar Landing Training Vehicle flight, 1960s. In-flight footage of a training flight in a Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV). Known informally as The Flying Bedstead, this open-framework vehicle was used to train astronauts in piloting and landing the Apollo Lunar Module (LM). Training with simulators such as this provided the astronauts with crucial experience for landing LMs on the surface of the Moon during the Apollo missions. The Apollo programme took place between 1961 and 1972, with NASA astronauts achieving six landings on the Moon.
