EF4 tornado, Oklahoma, USA. Footage of the powerful tornado of 9 May 2016 that caused destruction between the towns of Katie and Wynnewood in Oklahoma, USA, on 9 May 2016. A tornado is a rapidly rotating funnel of air that can form below certain types of storm clouds. High wind speeds within the rotating funnel can cause immense destruction. This was an EF4 tornado, which is the classification for tornadoes that reach wind speeds of 270 to 320 kilometres per hour, causing extreme damage. These tornadoes are capable of levelling houses and moving cars and other heavy objects through the air. This was the strongest tornado to occur in the USA in 2016. Some of the footage shown here is less than 800 metres away. This tornado lasted for half an hour, from 16:06 to 16:27 local time. One person was killed, several injured, and houses, cars and trees were destroyed and damaged. |
