Apollo 11 worldwide tour, Belgrade, October 1969. Footage of the Apollo astronauts and their wives meeting with Josip Tito, President of Yugoslavia, on the Belgrade leg of the global Presidential Goodwill Tour that took place from 29 September to 5 November 1969. Seated around the table, anti-clockwise from Tito, are his third wife Jovanka, Patricia Collins, Mike Collins, Janet Armstrong, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Joan Aldrin. Officially called the Giantstep Apollo 11 tour, the route took the Apollo 11 astronauts and their entourage to 27 cities in 22 countries over a period of 37 days. NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins were the crew of the historic Apollo 11 mission (16-24 July 1969), achieving the first landing by humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969. Around 100 million people turned out across the world to see the men who had been to the Moon. The visit to Belgrade, Yugoslavia, took place from 18-20 October 1969. |
