Atacama rock art at La Silla. Time-lapse footage of rock art by the Atacama people, with astronomical observatories in the background, on a moonlit night. The rock art on the boulder depicts shamans and various animals. Carvings or abrasions on rocks are known as petroglyphs, and are a form of rock art. Shamanism refers to rituals that connect to the natural world and involves contact with good and evil spirits. The astronomical domes in the background form part of La Silla astronomical observatory, located in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. These carvings are attributed to the El Molle people. Footage filmed in April 2016. | |
