A wide telephoto shot of STS 120 - Space Shuttle Discovery on launch pad 39A as the sound suppression water system is activated, protecting Discovery and the launch pad from acoustic energy. A close up of the main engines as they ignite. A wider lateral shot as the solid rocket boosters ignite and Discovery is released from the launch pad. The shot cuts to a wide view from the VIP stands with the countdown clock and spectators in vision as Discovery clears the tower and control switches to Houston. Wide shot which pulls back as Discovery accelerates rapidly into the blue sky on a column of fire and exhaust. The roll programme begins and we cut to the onboard external fuel tank camera as the roll continues and the vehicle passes through a cloud deck. Clearing the clouds you can make out the shadow of the exhaust trail column cast on the clouds below. Brief tracking shot of the shuttle in a cloud deck as it passes Max Q. The clip ends with further onboard footage. | |
