John Young drives the Lunar Rover in a circuit between Charlie Duke, filming the action, and the distant Lunar Module in order to capture footage of the rover driving on the Moon for the engineers to review. The communications antenna and the remote control TV camera can be seen on the front of the rover as it drives the circuit - dubbed as the lunar Grand Prix by the astronauts. Dust is thrown up in to arcs that Charlie describes as rooster tails as the rover skids and accelerates across the dusty surface. The footage is shot at a low frame rate of around 8 fps. The shadow of Charlie's helmet can be seen on the surface at the bottom of the frame. Date recorded: 1972-04-21 to 1972-04-23 | |
