Mammography technique. Footage of a public health educational film from the 1960s, showing techniques used for breast X-rays (mammograms). This clip shows the X-ray machine being moved into position over the patient's right breast to obtain the craniocaudal view. An X-ray plate is below the breast. Mammography is carried out to screen for breast cancer in women. Those in high-risk groups for breast cancer are screened more frequently. Screening can detect tumours at an early stage, when they are more easily treatable. This footage was produced by physician Robert L. Egan (1920-2001) and published by the US Public Health Service in 1965. | |
