Ol Doinyo Lengai volcanic vent eruption. Footage of natrocarbonatitic lava erupting from a vent on the summit of the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai (Mountain of God). This stratovolcano is in the Rift Valley in northern Tanzania. The lava is rich in sodium and carbonates, and emerges from the crater at between 500 and 590 degrees Celsius, the coolest lava of any known active volcano. Unlike normal lava, this lava looks like a silvery mud as it is too cool to glow visibly during the day. | |
