Sakurajima volcano eruption. Footage of a column of ash rising from the summit crater after an explosive eruption of Sakurajima (1117 metres), a stratovolcano near the city of Kagoshima in Japan. Major historical eruptions produced large andesitic lava flows, and by 1914 the flows connected this former island to the mainland. Kagoshima, which is four kilometres to the west, frequently suffers from ashfall from the volcano. Footage obtained in February 2013. | |
