Mount Bromo volcano eruption. Footage of a column of ash rising from an eruption of Mount Bromo, a pyroclastic volcanic cone in the Tengger Caldera, Java, Indonesia. This eruption, seen from the caldera rim, occurred during a phase of increased ash venting. Mount Bromo (2392 metres) rises 133 metres above the surrounding floor of the massive (9 by 10 kilometres) Tengger Caldera. This caldera, also referred to as the sand-sea caldera due to its flat sandy floor, is the result of the collapse of the top half of a stratovolcano over 250, 000 years ago. Bromo has been frequently active since historical records began, with a total of over 50 eruptions being recorded since 1804. Footage obtained in March 2011. | |
