Iodometric titration. Footage of a volumetric titration being carried out, with the absence of iodine indicating the end point. This is known as iodometric titration, or iodometry. At the start of the clip, the flask contains water to which an iodide (solid) is added, along with the sample (liquid) which oxidises the iodide. This produces the deep brown colour of triiodide ions. The titrate (usually standard thiosulphate solution) is then added from the burette, reversing the oxidation and producing iodide again. The endpoint of the titration (starch is also used as an indicator) is shown by the colour change to a clear solution. | |
