Glow stick temperature effects. Footage of glow sticks emitting more or less light depending on their temperature. The glow sticks contain chemical reactants that combine to produce light through chemiluminescence. The beaker at left contains dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide, minus 78.5 degrees Celsius). The beaker at right contains hot water at a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. The hotter glow stick produces more light than the cooler one because the reactant molecules have greater energy and collide more frequently. For the beakers and glow sticks in the dark later in this experiment, see clip K005/4775. | |
