Iodine starch test on different foods. Footage of an iodine starch test about to be carried out on a range of food samples in a sample tray. Iodine solution (not shown) will be added to the samples. If the iodine solution turns from orange to black, this is a positive result for starch. Starch is a carbohydrate that is used by plants as a store of energy, and hence is a source of energy in many plant-based foods. This test can be used on a range of starch-containing foods. The foods being tested here include cereal, potato, rice, pasta, crisps, sugar, bread, and flour. Sugar does not contain starch and gives a negative result in this test. For the results of this test, see clip K005/3781. |
