Pluto. New Horizons enhanced colour view of the dwarf planet Pluto. Pluto's surface exhibits an unexpected range of colours, which hint at complex geological and climatological processes. Parts of the surface appear featureless, suggesting that they are the sights of ongoing geological processes. New Horizons has spent nine and a half years travelling the nearly five billion kilometres to Pluto. This footage (combined blue, red and infrared) was obtained by the spacecraft's Ralph/Multispectral Visual Imaging Camera (MVIC) on 14 July 2015. |
