Lunar Landing Research Vehicle. A pilot launches and flies a Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLRV). These vehicles were built by Bell Aerosystems in the 1960s as part of the Apollo Project to land on the moon. Known affectionately as flying bedsteads , they were vertical take-off and landing vehicles each powered by a single jet engine. The vehicles allowed Apollo astronauts to train for real moon landings. | |
