Space Shuttle solid rocket booster flight test. Preparation and flight test of a Space Shuttle solid rocket booster (SRB), carried by a B52 aircraft. SRBs provided the majority of the Space Shuttle's thrust during the first two minutes of flight. They were then jettisoned and parachuted back to Earth, where they were recovered, refurbished and reused. The Space Shuttle solid rocket boosters were the first solid fuel motors to be used for primary propulsion on a human spaceflight vehicle. This footage was shot in the 1980s. | |
