Night sky from the ALMA site in Chile. Timelapse footage of the night sky, near the morning twilight, seen from the Andes mountains in Chile. The southern Milky Way and the Carina Nebula appear in the sky with passing clouds. This footage was taken from the site of ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter sub-millimeter Array), an array of 66 radio telescopes located at an altitude of 5000 metres on the Chajnantor plateau, in Chile's Atacama desert. Data from the separate telescopes is combined by interferometry, making it one of the most powerful and complex observatories in the world. | |
