Animation of the human brain, with one hemisphere removed to show the internal structures. The largest parts of the brain are the cerebral hemispheres (grey), which have a highly folded surface of grey matter (nerve cell bodies) with an underlying structure of white matter (nerve fibres). At the back of the base of the brain is the cerebellum (blue), which controls balance, posture and motor control. The brain connects to the rest of the body through the brainstem (orange), which turns into the spinal cord (not shown). The two hemispheres are linked by the corpus callosum (green). In the centre of the brain are the structures of the limbic system, in yellow and red. This clip has a transparent alpha channel. For the same clip on white or black, see K004 5015 and K004 5016. | |
