Beryl (beryllium aluminium silicate) is normally green, but blue, yellow, red and translucent varieties are also seen. It occurs in igneous rocks like granites and pegmatites, but also in schists and gneisses, often associated with rutile. It is an ore for extracting the metal beryllium, but also an attractive semi-precious stone for use in jewellery. | |
