Naturalist using a small stick to trigger the mechanism of a sage (Salvia sp.) flower. Pressing on the lower part of the flower activates the stamens, which curl down from the upper parts to deposit pollen (yellow) on the back of visiting insects. This only occurs in the insect is sufficiently heavy. See clip K004 2261 for a small fly failing to trigger the stamens, and K004 2263 for a large bee activating the mechanism. | |
