Hiroshima prior to 1945 nuclear bombing. Footage of traffic, people, buildings and river craft in the city of Hiroshima, Japan, prior to the destruction caused by the nuclear bomb (Little Boy) detonated here in August 1945. This was the first atomic bomb used in military action. Dropped on 6 August 1945 by a US airforce B52 bomber, it exploded with a force of 12, 500 tons of TNT. The explosion killed 80, 000 and devastated the city. The death toll continued to rise over the years as survivors developed cancers associated with radiation. The bomb ultimately claimed over 200, 000 lives. | |
