House fly (Musca domestica) laying eggs. Female house flies can lay 9, 000 eggs in their lifetime, in several batches of about 75 to 150. Larvae live and feed on organic material, typically dead or decaying material. After 14 to 36 hours of feeding they crawl to a cool dry place, transform into a pupae, then into an adult fly. This process is called metamorphosis. | |
