MODEL RELEASED. Climate change experiment. Growth of pine trees being studied under raised levels of UV-B radiation (tube lights, square shape). UV-B is a dangerous form of ultraviolet radiation found in sunlight. It is normally blocked by the ozone layer high in the atmosphere, but human use of chlorinated gases has led to polar depletion of the ozone layer (ozone holes). This increased amount of UV-B radiation at high latitudes damages living organisms, and can alter their DNA (genetic material). The exact effects vary from plant to plant.
