Blue colours indicate uptake and orange-red colours indicate out-gassing of ocean carbon. The pathlines indicate surface wind stress,one of the drivers of air-sea carbon exchange. Studying this process aids understanding of the carbon cycle,carbon biogeochemistry,and climate change.
