Disabled film projectionist. One-legged World War I veteran (left) working as a film projectionist. This is an exhibit poster produced by the Red Cross Institute for Crippled and Disabled Men and the Red Cross Institute for the Blind. Disabled veterans like the one shown here would have attended classes to help them re-train and find work,in this case in New York City,USA. As well as the millions who died in World War I (1914-1918),millions were left injured and permanently disabled. This led to advances in prosthetics and orthopaedic surgery,as efforts were made to support and rehabilitate disabled war veterans. Photographed in 1919 | |
