Picard satellite and Sun,artwork. This satellite, one of the MYRIADE microsatellites from the French space agency (CNES),is designed to study the Sun and its effect on the Earth's climate. It was launched on 15 June 2010 and orbits at an altitude of 725 kilometres. It has three sets of instruments: SOVAP,PREMOS and SODISM. These are used to measure the variability of solar radiation (SOVAP),rates of ozone formation and destruction in Earth's atmosphere (PREMOS),and solar diameter, shape and interior structure (SODISM). The latter involves helioseismology, studying pressure waves that exist within the Sun | |
