Argus II artificial retina vision. Composite image of a blind user of the Argus II artificial retina (left) and a simulation of what they would see (centre and right). The Argus II was developed by US company Second Sight. It consists of a 60-electrode array implanted in the retina, plus external equipment (glasses, antenna, camera, video processing unit). Users of this implant are able to perceive contrasts between light and dark areas,as shown here, but not yet full vision. This research was carried out at the Institut de la Vision,in Paris,France.
