Goosenecks canyon. Panoramic view across the entrenched meandering of the San Juan River, which has formed a highly curved Goosenecks canyon. This is a classic example of an entrenched river meander. Hundreds of thousands of years ago,the river curved its way slowly across a plain. Because the flow of the river did not dramatically increase in speed over time,it has slowly cut into the layers of the plain without altering its course. The canyon of the San Juan River is here over 300 metres deep and runs for several kilometres. Photographed in the Goosenecks State Park,Utah,USA | |
