Timelapse footage of a cap cloud over a mountain peak as the sun sets. This cloud is formed as moist air is forced to rise as it passes the mountain, causing it to cool and the moisture within it to condense. As it descends on the lee side of the mountain it warms and the moisture evaporates again. This is a similar process to that which forms lenticular clouds, which can appear some way downstream of a peak. Filmed on Spitsbergen, Svalbard, Norway. | |
