White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) calf scratching itself on a small boulder. This is a southern white rhino (C. simum simum), whose natural range is the grasslands of southern Africa. This infant is part of a group that was relocated to the Nairobi National Park in Kenya, to better protect them from poachers. The southern white rhino is the most abundant rhino species, but it is classified as Near Threatened. The main danger is poaching, as its horns fetch a high price for use in traditional Asian medicines.
