Blade-shearing a sheep. This shearer is Zweliwile Hans, five-time World Champion blade-shearer. The sheep is a Merino (Ovis aries), a breed raised for the high quality of its wool. They are typically sheared twice a year. Hand shears are usually used when the farmer would like the sheep to retain some of its fleece in colder environments. Electric sheers are quicker and are less taxing on the shearer but they tend to leave the sheep with a shorter coat after shearing. Filmed in South Africa. | |
