Orion nebula. Composite infrared footage zooming in to the Orion Nebula (M42), an emission nebula in the constellation Orion, 1350 light years from Earth. Radiation from hot young stars forming in the nebula cause it glow. The stars powering this nebula are a tight cluster called the Trapezium at its core. The radiation pressure and stellar winds of the young stars have opened up a large cavity in the gas cloud from which they formed. Footage assembled from European Southern Observatory imagery. | |
