Points of light static and in motion, showing how the human visual system recognises shapes and movement from limited information. This clip is based on the patch light system developed by the Swedish psychophysicist Gunnar Johansson in the early 1970s. When static the lights appear to have no connection to each other. With some lights attached to a person's joints, the relationship between them becomes immediately obvious when they move, but the effect vanishes as soon as the lights stop moving. | |
