Dental health film, tooth decay. Animated footage from an educational dental health film, illustrating tooth decay and an abscess. The animation starts with circular insets surrounding an anatomical view of the internal structure of a single tooth. The foods show, especially the sweet and sugary ones, contribute to tooth decay. Food debris and bacteria create plaque and erode the enamel protecting the tooth. The tooth is shown progressively decaying (dental caries), with large holes appearing. The decay exposes the sensitive pulp tissue, which is removed (a root canal operation). Finally, an abscess (infected area) appears at the bottom of one of the tooth's roots, spreading into the surrounding bone. This animation is from a US military training film, published in the 1940s by the US War Office. | |
