Heart valve anatomy. Animation showing the anatomy of the heart and its internal valves. The animation starts with a view of a human figure showing the skeleton and internal organs. The view zooms in on the beating heart and the lungs, which are rising and falling with each breath. The animation then shows just the heart, rotating to view a sectioned heart from below. The valves are the aortic valve (centre), and clockwise from left: the tricuspid valve, the pulmonary valve, and the mitral valve. Oxygenated blood leaving the heart to be pumped round the body passes through the aortic valve. Deoxygenated blood leaving the heart to be pumped to the lungs passes through the pulmonary valve. The tricuspid valve and mitral valve lie between the heart chambers (ventricles and atria) on the right and left side of the heart respectively. The second half of the animation shows the heart from the front in sectioned view. The tricuspid valve is at left and the mitral valve is at right. The valve at top is the pulmonary valve, with the aortic valve below it. This alpha channel animation is also available with a black background. Labelled version: K005/6216. | |
