Rosette orbital. Animation of an object (red) orbiting a point source (yellow) in what is known as a rosette orbital. This is an orbit where the attraction is a force proportional to 1/r (the inverse of the radius, 'r'). This animation shows the resulting orbit, which describes a flower-like pattern or rosette. This type of orbit is different to the ellipse described in a gravitational system where gravity is proportional to the inverse square of the radius of the orbit. | |
