Female reproductive system and hormones. Animation of the organs of the female reproductive system and the release of sex hormones. The start of the animation shows the abdominal female reproductive organs: the vagina, the uterus, the ovaries, the oviducts (Fallopian tubes), the cervix (neck of the uterus) and the uterine lining (endometrium). The viewpoint moves up the body, past the heart, to the brain, rotating to zoom in on the pituitary gland at the base of the brain. Sex hormones (yellow) such as luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone are released, entering the bloodstream. This animation is part of a sequence illustrating the female reproductive system, ovulation, fertilisation and pregnancy. For the continuation of this animation, see clip K005/5515. |
