Timelapse footage of a partially eclipsed full moon rising. A lunar eclipse occurs when the full moon moves into the shadow cast by the Earth. This does not occur every full moon as the moon does not orbit the Earth in the same plane as the Earth orbits the Sun. The colour of the moon appears to change as it rises, although this is not an effect of the eclipse here. Instead it is due to the moonlight passing through more of the atmosphere the lower in the sky it is, which allows more of the blue light to be scattered, making it appear redder. Filmed in the USA. |
