Water usage in Nebraska, USA. Satellite-based dataset animation of water use in an area of the state of Nebraska, USA. The animation starts with a wide view of the entire USA, zooming down to the area in Nebraska where water usage studies have been done using Landsat-8 satellite data. The initial view is of true-colour Landsat-8 data. The data is then overlaid in three forms: (1) thermal band data from the satellite, showing the temperature from cool (blue and violet) to warm (yellow and white); (2) the evapotranspiration ratio (ETrF), ranging from zero (white) through shades of green to one (dark green); and (3) bar extrusions of water use data, shown in shades of blue from zero inches (white) to 30 inches (dark blue, 76 centimetres). The view then pulls back to show the entire area studied. The technology used here is METRIC (Mapping Evapotranspiration at high Resolution and with Internalized Calibration), with an application called EEFlux (Earth Engine Evapotranspiration Flux).
