Timelapse footage of a dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis) seed head maturing. After the flowers have been fertilised, the flower head dries out and the petals fall, and the head curves backwards to form a ball of seeds. Each seed is attached to a parachute of fine hairs called a pappus, which helps it be carried away by the wind. Cropped from 3872x2592 pixels. See clip K003 5196 for a version with aspect ratio 4:3. | |
