Timelapse footage of a French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) germinating below the soil. The bean first sprouts a young root called a radicle, which heads downwards in the direction of the pull of gravity (positive gravitropism). The young shoot, called a hypocotyl, heads upwards for the surface in the direction against gravity (negative gravitropism). See clip K003 7745 for the further development of the bean. Mastered from originals at frame size 4288x2848. This clip has been cropped to 16:9. A full frame 4:3 version is availabe as reference number K003 7746. | |
