Bulrushes encased in ice following a rare winter ice storm in Toronto, Canada. Ice storms are a result of freezing rain falling on surfaces with temperatures below freezing. This causes the rain to freeze on contact with anything it lands on, completely covering structures in ice. The weight of the ice can cause a huge amount of damage, felling trees and power lines, and they have been known to paralyze entire cities. | |
