Autumn stars and light pollution

Composite clip showing how light pollution obscures the autumn stars of the Northern Hemisphere. As the camera tilts down, it is revealed how light pollution obscures the view of the stars. The clip is a composite of three images: the zenith view was taken from the Roque de los Muchachos observatory on La Palma, Canary Islands, with a 600 second exposure , the middle view was taken in the country with a 180 second exposure, and the horizon view was taken from a city with a ten second exposure. The dramatic effect of light pollution is clearly seen: from the mountains the night sky is very dark and countless stars are seen. In the city sky, the lights hide many of the stars, and very few are visible through the reflected glow. Images taken from Germany, looking south.
