Projected image of the partial solar eclipse of 23rd October 2014. The huge sunspot group 2192 is clearly visible on the Sun's surface. This was the largest sunspot group observed in that solar cycle at the time, and was the source of several flares. A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes in front of the Sun as seen from Earth. This was only a partial eclipse, the region of totality passed above the North Pole, but the partial eclipse was visible across North America. This was observed from California, USA. | |
