Sulfur crystal growth, polarised light micrograph. Elemental sulfur is melted (melting temperature 115 C) between microscope slide and cover glass, the re-crystallization captured under the microscope with crossed polarizers. A crystal is a solid material whose atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern. Here, sulfur crystals grow as new atoms, ions, or polymer strings are added in order to form a crystalline lattice. Capturing device: DSLR Canon 5DMk2 with Microscope adaption. Captured field width : 2, 1 mm. Magnification on Sensor :17x | |
