Enzyme activity feedback control. Animation showing the mechanism of allosteric regulation that controls the activity of an enzyme (BC, yellow). The animation starts with substrates A (green cube) and B (red sphere) binding with the active site (lower left). The result is product C (upper right). Further reactions with enzymes CD (yellow square) and enzyme DE (purple pyramid) produce product D (centre left) and product E (lower right). Product E then binds to another site on the enzyme (three-quarters of the way through the clip). This changes the configuration of enzyme BC, changing the shape of the original activation site and leading to inhibition. The last stage of the animation shows the original substrates (A and B) failing to bind to the now-changed activation site on the original enzyme. For this animation without labels, see K004/2063. | |
